What's Sunday Like?

Whether you've never set foot into church or you're heartily seasoned, here's what to expect when you worship with us on the Lord's Day.

The Pattern of Worship

Ordered by Scripture. Shaped by history.

Our Lord's Day worship follows the historic pattern of Christian liturgy. We built our practice around the patterns of God's covenant dealings with His people through Scripture. God calls, we confess, He forgives, we hear, He feeds, He sends.

We meet not for entertainment, we do not have a smoke machine. Instead, you will hear Word of God preached with conviction, and exhortations to obey; you'll find the Table of Christ spread with welcome, yet guarded; you'll find the covenant people gathered with their King.

Most services run approximately 90 minutes. Dress is business casual. Come as you are, but know that many in our congregation dress to honor the occasion of standing before our God.

Call to Worship

God summons His people into His presence. God initiates worship with His call. We are welcomed before the throne.

Psalm-Singing & Hymns

We sing Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

Corporate Confession of Sin

As we enter God's prescence, we confess our sins together before God in a time of silent prayer. We recognize that we meet with the Lord upon the principle of grace.

Assurance of Pardon

The minister declares God's forgiveness to the congregation out of Scripture. We practice the knowledge of our justified standing in the Gospel..

Scripture Reading & Sermon

The Word of God is read and preached. The preacher proclaims promises to be believed and commands to obey, pressing the truth into our bossoms in covenantal fashion. Our preaching mostly expository (working through books of the Bible to open the whole counsel of God), but occasionally we do topical sermons for specicial events or to address specific needs of the congregation.

The Lord's Supper

We celebrate the Lord's Supper every Lord's Day. Baptized, professing members who are not under the disciple of any true church may come to the Table.

Benediction

God sends out His people with a commission and a blessing. We go forth to disciple the nations.

What to expect when you arrive

A Warm Welcome

We will greet you and introduce ourselves. You'll receive a bulletin with the order of service. Don't be shy; we love guests.

A bulletin to follow along

The liturgy is printed so you can participate fully. Responsive readings, confessions, Hymn references. You'll be fine.

Children in Worship

Children worship with their families. We believe children belong in the assembly of God's people. We convictionally do not offer nursery services or children's church. Expect to keep your children of all ages with you during the service. We are used to cooing babies. We do have a private room for nursing mothers, which can still hear the sermon, if needed.

The Lord's Supper

We fence the Table for baptized, professing members of our congregation and those in good standing with a Reformed or evangelical church. Guests are warmly invited to observe under the assumption that you meet these conditions. If you are denied, we are happy to guide you through the necessary steps for access.

Food & Fellowship

After the service, we enjoy a fellowhip meal together. Come ready to eat and argue about the Nephlim.

Not a Single Fog Machine

That's right. Not-a-one. No theater (notwithstanding that we meet in a theater building); we gather to ascend Mt. Zion into the special presence of the Lord. We need no such triffles and reject them all.

The Preached Word

Expository preaching through the whole Bible.

Our sermons work through books of the Bible, verse by verse, chapter by chapter. We believe every part of Scripture is profitable for teaching, correction, rebuke and training in righteousness.

You will find no sweater vest, felt-needs preaching: limp-wristed motivational talks ear-tickling. You will find the text opened, grammar examined, context respected, theology applied, Christ proclaimed.

Common questions

Do I need to dress up?

Business casual is our standard. Some of us dress more formally to honor the occasion.

What if I'm not Reformed?

You are still welcome. Many who now call CRF home came from very different backgrounds. We ask that you engage honestly and ask questions freely, espeically at our post-service fellowship meal.

Can my kids come?

Yes. Children worship with the congregation. Children are a gift, not to be shuffled off to another room; we believe parents are called by God to worship with their children, and teach them how to worship.

Will I be singled out as a visitor?

No. We'll greet you warmly, but we won't ask you to stand up, wave, or wear a name tag. You're welcome to observe and participate at whatever level you desire.

What about the Lord's Supper?

We fence the Table for baptized, professing believers in good standing with a Reformed or evangelical church. Guests are encouraged to participate.
